Instagram is one of the most used applications in Spain. Millions of users upload photos to their accounts on this platform. There are times when a photo doesn't quite convince us, so we archive it for a while. If we have changed our mind, we can always make it show up again on the profile, something that is done through the unarchive photos function.

What is the use of unarchiving a photo and when is it used?

What this function does is that this photo is no longer visible on your profile, now being in the archive, which only you can see. The photo has not been completely removed, but is simply no longer displayed in the profile on the platform. In many cases, archiving a photo can be seen as a step prior to deleting said image.
This is something we can to do when there are photos we are not sure about. That is, there is a photo that we do not want to see at a certain time, for whatever reason, we can archive it then. For the rest of the people who enter our Instagram profile, it will be as if that photo had been deleted, because they will not be able to see it. Although in reality this photo is in the archive, which only we can access.
If any photos are archived on Instagram, we are making no one can see it or be able to interact with it. Since the photo is no longer displayed on the profile, no one will be able to like or comment on it. This is something that can only be done when we make the decision to unarchive said photo, something that requires a series of steps in our account on the popular social network.
How to unarchive Instagram photos
If we have changed our minds and we want this photo to be seen again on our profile, then it is time to unarchive said image. This is a process that many are not aware of, so they want to know how to unarchive Instagram photos. It is a process that we will be able to follow in its entirety in the Android or iOS application, depending on the device on which we use it. It is something really simple and within the reach of any user. The steps we have to follow are:
- Open Instagram on your phone or tablet.
- Tap on your profile picture at the bottom right of the screen.
- Click on the three horizontal stripes at the top right of the screen on your profile.
- In the menu that appears, click File.
- The file where the hidden profile photos are located opens.
- Find the photo you want to unarchive.
- Get into it.
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top right of the photo.
- Choose the option “Show again in profile”.
- The photo is seen again on your Instagram profile.
As you can see, Instagram does not use the name unarchive for this feature, but this is exactly what we are doing. By using the option to show the photo again on the profile, we are making it come out of the file, so that all those who visit our profile on Instagram can see it again, as well as interact with the photo (leave comments or give me like). If there are more photos that you want to take from said file, you will only have to do the same with all of them.
This photo will be displayed again where it was. That is to say, photos on your profile are displayed in chronological order, most recent first. This photo will not be displayed on top, but will be put on its original post date, so it will be in the position it was initially in on Instagram. It will show as in the past, without any notifications to other users, who will simply see that the photo is visible again in your account.
Archive photos on Instagram
To know how to unarchive Instagram photos, First we have to archive those photos. As we have mentioned before, when we archive a photo in our account, what we do is that it is no longer visible on the profile. For other people it will be as if we have deleted said photo, but in reality it is in this file. The archive is a section that only we can access on Instagram and there we have the archived photos, but that we have not yet deleted.
There may be photos that we are not entirely sure about, that we do not know if we want to delete. We have not made a final decision on them, therefore, we can archive those photos. So that they are no longer visible in the profile on the social network and we can decide what we want to do with them later. If you want to archive an account photo on Instagram, the steps you have to follow are these:
- Open Instagram on your phone or tablet.
- Tap on your profile picture at the bottom right of the screen.
- Find the photo you want to archive among your posts.
- Click on this photo.
- Click on the icon of the three vertical dots at the top right of the photo.
- In the options that appear, click on Archive.
- The photo has already been sent to the archive.
In addition to the publications in the archive we find all the stories that we have uploaded in our account. The stories are stored directly once 24 hours have passed, the time they are visible on our profile on the social network. So if you are looking for any of your stories, you will also be able to find them in this file on the social network at all times.
The photos that we have archived on Instagram they will stay in said file as long as we want. We are the ones who decide what happens with these photos, so if we want them to remain archived, they will remain archived. The social network does not set a limit to the time that a photo or video from our account can be archived. So everything that we don't want to be in the profile, but we don't want to delete permanently either, we can have it in this file without any worries. After a while we can decide what we want to do with this publication in question.
Delete photos
We can delete any photo we want. This applies both to photos that we have in the profile and those that we have archived at the time in our Instagram account. It may be that after a while we become clear that we no longer want this photo, so we proceed to delete it. The steps to follow are the same in both cases, this is what we have to do:
- Open Instagram.
- Go to your profile or go to the archive (it depends on where the photo you want to delete is).
- Find the photo you want to permanently delete.
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top of this photo.
- Click on Delete in the menu that appears.
- Confirm this action again.
- Wait for said photo to be deleted.
As this is an action that in many cases usually generates regret, Instagram introduced a trash can a couple of years ago. That is, the photos that we have deleted from the account are not directly deleted permanently. Rather, they are first stored in a recycle bin, like the one we have in Windows, for example. Only in this case there is a time limit, that is, they will be kept for a certain time in said bin. Instagram gives us 30 days to restore a deleted photo before it's permanently deleted.
When you have deleted a photo from your Instagram account or from the archive, You can look in the settings for the section called “Recently Deleted”, which is the trash can of the social network. In it we can see all the photos that have been deleted in the last 30 days, including the one that we just deleted and whose deletion we want to reverse. We will only have to look for this photo, click on it and then on the icon of the three vertical points. Then you just have to click on restore, confirm this action and wait for the photo to appear again in the profile.
